Awhile back I wrote about the surgery that was the first step to getting back into ultimate competitive shape. (Surgery Part 1 and Surgery Part 2) It seemed like 2013 was a year of injuries for a ton of us who usually compete our way to the podium and train/enjoy our sport as friends along the way. We share a passion for what we do, but that doesn’t mean that training our way back to the levels we want is an easy road – and not for any of you either!

One thing that really keeps me motivated and pushing hard is training with friends. The other day I happened to be out there – just myself. I had a super good paddle. Even without a paddling buddy I pushed hard and got the job done (see shot from my Garmin on the left).

It is going to be a long year with back to back competitions all over the world so I have to get on it.

connor-dogI get asked about training tips all the time. No matter where you paddle – stay hydrated (photo of the coolest dog showing us how its done!)

FUEL!!! Put the best stuff in the tank before and after you train. It makes all the difference. When you’ve planned ahead and have the best ingredients already in your kitchen it makes choices a lot easier.

If you have specific questions, drop them on my Facebook page and I’ll reply on this blog.
